Events

ABC Art Spaces are seeking a range of works broadly interpreting the theme ‘Australian Flora and Fauna’ for the first exhibitions in the new gallery spaces on ABC Island. Let’s make this a celebration of Australian Second Life art! Ideas for art related events are also welcome. Please send a notecard named ‘ABC Art – [your avatar name]‘ with brief details of the work you would like to exhibit to Juanita Deharo or Juko Tempel before April 24. Opening events will be held from the following week.

Guidelines for Artists

[Update] We would still like to hear from more Australian artists with Second Life art to display in Art Spaces. If you know someone who would be interested, please let them know that the Spaces are available. This exhibition will showcase multiple artists and will run for six weeks.

[Update] This exhibition has been withdrawn, with apologies to the artists who gave their time and their pieces.

Following on from the first two forum meetings four gallery spaces have been created/modified on the ABC Island to accommodate approx. 80 2D art works and 15 3D indoor sculptures. ABC Friends are keen to start the process of having a flow of Australian art come through the island in the next weeks. To achieve this in the four galleries (photos and slurls below) we welcome suggestions from friends as to works they would like to see.

We would also like two people to jointly curate the art and make sure it is a wide representation or have a strong theme and one or two people to publicise it. Please contact Shai Khalifa or Juanita Deharo or Juko Tempel inworld who will collate names and distribute conditions.

Here are the first four galleries (three are in Laneways which now makes all the interior spaces active across the site) and slurls:

1 – Outdoor three level ‘Festival Gallery’ (construction WIP)

The 3rd Forum is scheduled for Thursday 3 April 08, at 8:30pm AEDT at the Amphitheatre. Shai agreed to facilitate.

These Forums came about because the ABC Friends felt they wanted to contribute to the life of the ABC Second Life presence.

Prior to the first Forum, a backgrounder document was distributed which outlined the reasons for the Forum, how it would run, and what would happen to anything that came out of it.

At the beginning of the Forum each person was issued with a list of the suggestions so far made during IM chat discussions.

The Forum was facilitated by Shai Khalifa, and Abi Goldflake represented ABC interests. A number of people turned up to take part and discussion was kept fairly close on topic.

ABC FRIENDS FORUM

Thursday 20 March
8:30 pm AEST

The Amphitheatre, ABC Island

There has been a lot of discussion recently about the ABC sim. A number of things have caused this sudden upsurge of active debate, not the least of which was a feeling that ABC island didn’t really represent what it started out as.

It came to light that ABC was also in the process of assessing it’s position with the online presence in SL – one way or another.
